About the Author: Ken Ramirez is the executive vice president of animal care and training at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. He has directed training programs around the world and instructed hundreds of students in the science and art of animal training. Ken is past president of the International Marine Animal Trainers Association. In addition to his extensive work in the zoological field, Ken has helped a variety of working-dog programs (search and rescue, detection, and service) transition to the use of positive reinforcement training. He is the author of numerous articles on animal training, and since 1996, he has taught a graduate course on animal training at western Illinois University.
